Fill the Spaces

Select a large box, and place in it as many cannonballs as it will hold, and it is, after a fashion, full; but it will hold more if smaller matters be found. Bring a quantity of marbles; very many of these may be packed in the spaces between the larger globes; the box is now full, but only in a sense; it will contain more yet. There are spaces in abundance, into which you may shake a considerable quantity of small shot, and now the chest is filled beyond all question; but yet there is room. You cannot put in another shot or marble, much less another ball; but you will find that several pounds of sand will slide down between the larger materials, and, even then between the granules of sand, if you empty yonder jug, there will be space for all the water, and for the same quantity several times repeated. Where there is no space for the great, there may be room for the little; where the little cannot enter, the less can make its way: and where the less is shut out, the least of all may find ample room. So where time is, as we say fully occupied, there must be stray moments, occasional intervals, and bits of time which might hold a vast amount of little usefulness in the course of months and years.

Brain Teasers

See if you can solve these (sort-of) real life problems.

You put a coin in a a bottle, then cork it. How do you get the coin out without breaking the bottle or taking out the cork?

You have two coins. Together, they make 55 cents. One of them is not a nickel. What are the two coins?

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Solution 1: Push the cork all the way into the bottle, then shake the coin out.

Solution 2: One of the coins is a half-dollar. The other is a nickel. (Remember that only one is not a nickel.)

Here's a riddle 4u!

You took off the outside, then cooked the inside. Then you ate the outside, and threw away the inside. What did you eat?

No sooner spoken than broken. What is it?

Throw me off the tallest building, and I will not break. Throw me in the ocean, and I will. What am I?

Thin I am fast, thick I am slow, wind is my foe. What am I?

What do men love more than life, fear more than death or a battle, the poor have it, the rich require it, the contented desire it, and all men will take it to their graves?
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Answer 1: Corn on the cob.
Answer 2: Silence or a secret.
Answer 3: A tissue.
Answer 4: A candle.
Answer 5: Nothing.

Latest Lizard Looks!

Wow, a purple lizard! How crazy is that? I don't know if that is its real color, or if the camera did something weird. You have to admit, you've probably never seen anything like it. A new anole trend! ( For those of you that don't know what anole means, it is simply the name of this particular lizard.) I've seen all kinds of lizards, but never one with this kind of style!

Just 4 Fun

A cook knows how to make it that way, but a chef knows why it's made that way.

Stop and Smell the Roses

If you look at my profile, you will see I love nature. So, when I found this picture of this flower (I call it 'this flower' because I don't know what it is really called) I liked it a lot. Maybe it's because purple and green are my favorite colors, I don't know. But what I do know, is that it's a reminder to take my time. Even though I'm still a kid, I tend to rush, and forget to enjoy the simple things. :)

A Penny for your Thoughts

I had been looking for a picture to blog about, and when I saw it, I thought it was kinda funny. It seemed Alta was saying, "Huh?" Somehow it was interesting to try to figure out what was
going through her head when my brother took this photo. Anyone want to give a penny for her thoughts?

On a Whim

Today we went to the beach. My baby brother LOVED it! He kept bouncing in my dad's arms, he was so excited! Even though it was night-time, and we couldn't see much, I had a lot of fun. We didn't go out in the water because sharks hunt at night, and we wanted to be careful. So instead, we walked along the beach, taking pictures. While my mom was clicking away with the camera, Dad found a weird piece of driftwood that looked like a branch with roots on the end. Later on, Alta and I found some yellow flowers called 'rose moss', ( which I thought was a weird name, because they didn't look like roses or moss) while we were climbing around the dunes. All in all, it was SUPER FUN!

Fun with Food

This picture was taken of me and my brother about three years ago. Oliver and I made this 'tomato' out of Play-doh. My mom took this pic because she thought it was 'so cute.' It had been fun so I thought I should post a comment about it. Tah-dah!

My Dreams

Ever since I can remember, all of my brothers have had a pet of some sort. A Chihuahua, two stray cats, two Pug/Boston terriers, goldfish, even some hermit crabs. They all eventually died, or were given away. So no more pets (for nearly two years!) But now, it's my turn to have a pet. My mom FINALLY said I could get a goldfish. Yay! I'm really excited about it, but also a little nervous. I hope I can do it right. Wish me luck!
